Helen joined the Titanic Hotel just two months ago as a Chef De Partie, and has already made quite the impression. Having previous experience at Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant The Hind’s Head, Helen’s passion and skill for cooking and being in the kitchen shines through in our bar and grill menu Liverpool– and has landed her the nomination of the Young Chef of the Year award.

“The thing I love most about working at the Titanic is that the Kitchen is so supportive. Usually when you work in larger hotels, you tend to be a cog in the wheel – but here you feel like a valued member of the team. There’s so many people here to support you if you have any issues, and I feel like we’re genuinely cared about.”
So what about working in the Kitchen does Helen get a kick out of? “Definitely when it’s busy and you’re having a mad rush, and you think you’re about to sink – but you don’t, and whilst it’s a stressful environment, it’s the adrenaline rush that leaves you feeling sky high at the end of a crazy shift.”

Helen is so passionate about cooking that whilst travelling abroad for a year, she would take every opportunity she had available to gather friends up and cook meals for them all. “I missed cooking so much that year. I just love it, it’s been my dream since I was a little girl and it’s all I ever want to do – just cook.”

Paul has been a maintenance technician at the Titanic Hotel for three years, although this doesn’t stop him from putting on a Father Christmas costume at Christmas time & entertaining our guests on Christmas day! For the past three years, Paul has come in to help serve Christmas dinner to all our guests, bringing plenty of smiles along with him. A true joker, Paul is constantly laughing and cracking jokes with the guests and other staff members (you often hear him laugh before you see him!).

A proud and passionate LFC supporter, Paul also spends time outside of work at Anfield, and has worked there for over 24 years as the Player’s Tunnel Steward.

“The Titanic Hotel has so much history to it and that’s the part of it that I love. It catches the real essence of what Liverpool used to be as a thriving dock city, and you can still feel it in the hotel to this day. I used to work in this part of Liverpool when it was still a working dock, so it’s amazing to see how it’s changed over the years. Another great part about working here is I get to work around Anfield too, which is something I’m so passionate about – so it’s great that I get to do that as well as working with an amazing team here.”

Paul has been nominated as Employee of the Year - Heart of House by the Liverpool Hospitality Association. The Awards Dinner will take place on 26th October. Good luck Helen and Paul!
